This article outlines what it means for features to be in either a closed or open beta state at Phin.
At Phin, we take great care in how new features move from idea to reality. Two of the most exciting phases of that journey are Closed Beta and Open Beta—the moments when customers can start to experience what’s next. Here’s what those stages mean for you.
What Is a Closed Beta?
A Closed Beta is an invitation-only stage where select customers can opt in to try a new feature before it’s widely released.
During this stage:
-
The feature is functional and available for self-piloting within your Phin tenant.
-
Our team actively collects your feedback to understand how well the feature helps you achieve its intended outcome.
-
You might notice some rough edges or limitations—this is normal. We are looking to validate the feature’s value and identify improvements before it reaches a broader audience.
Our goal for Closed Beta is to give you early access and a chance to majorly shape a feature.
What Is an Open Beta?
An Open Beta is the next step toward full release. At this stage, any customer can enable and use the feature, but it will still carry a “Beta” label.
Here’s what that means:
-
The feature is stable and polished enough for everyday use, though improvements may still be underway.
-
Feedback remains valuable and helps ensure the final version meets the highest standards.
Our goal for Open Beta is to work with our customer base to continue to refine the details.
From Beta to General Availability
Once a feature graduates from Open Beta, it becomes Generally Available (GA)—meaning everyone can use it, no labels attached. At that point, it’s fully supported and part of Phin’s core platform experience.
What's in Beta at Phin Today?
You can identify beta features in the portal by looking for the "Beta" tag. Below is an example of the beta tag marking the Dark Web Monitoring feature.
